Roseanne Sharpe, BA, BDiv

Though born in Portland, Oregon, Roseanne Sharpe has lived in North Dakota since 1995 when the Bethlehem Community of Benedictine Oblates, of which her family is a part, relocated to the Diocese of Fargo. Homeschooled through high school, Roseanne also did her upper-level studies at home, making frequent trips to Birmingham, England to complete a distance-learning degree in Applied Theology. She graduated with honors in 2011 from the BDiv course directed by Dr. Caroline Farey.

In her final research project—examining the relationship of text and image in medieval illuminated capitals—she was able to bring together her life-long interest in art and illustration with all she had gained in this unique opportunity to study the Church’s faith and to practice methods for handing it on. The project—building upon a childhood background rich with Biblical stories and images, and well-written and illustrated books—was not only intellectually and aesthetically challenging, but also inspired a new category of titles—Teaching the Language of the Faith, for Bethlehem Books, of which I Believe, We Believe: An Illustrated Journey through the Apostles’ Creed is now a part.

Blessed to have her formative years during the papacies of St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI, Roseanne desires to keep receiving from their holistic vision, and through it to excite the imaginations of children with the wonder and beauty of God’s creation and revelation.

As an oblate of Mount Angel Abbey, Oregon, Roseanne’s involvement with the Bethlehem Books’ apostolate links to the Benedictine history of preserving faith and culture for future generations. Dividing her time between the UK and her home-base in North Dakota, USA, Roseanne continues to freelance for Bethlehem Books. She also illustrated God the Father’s Loving Plan.
